Preferences

This page describes your Preferences and the Time zone. The Glossary defines the terms it uses.

Opening Preferences

Your avatar, a circle with your initials at the top right, is a menu button. Click it and choose Preferences. The Preferences dialog opens over the page. Close it, with ×, with Escape or by clicking outside it, to leave everything as it was.

Time zone

The System section of the dialog contains your Time zone preference.

  • Choose an IANA time zone, such as Europe/Zurich or America/New_York. Click the Time zone box and type any part of a name, such as tokyo or new york, to narrow the list, then pick one with the pointer or with the arrow keys and Enter.
  • Or choose Auto detect, which follows your browser's time zone.
  • Click Save to apply it. It is saved with your user, not in this browser, so it is the same wherever you sign in.

Every time follows it

plintz displays and reads times in your selected Time zone, not necessarily your browser's zone. For example, a user in Zurich who selects America/New_York sees and enters New York time. The underlying timestamps don't change.

  • the Trend's time axis and tick labels, the hover cursor's time and the Capsule pills;
  • the Display Range's and the Investigate Range's start and end, which you also type in your Time zone (see Time ranges), and the label of the Display Range bar, which names your Time zone;
  • the Capsules Pane's start and end, the Condition Table's Start and End, and the Chain View's headers and times, and the text alternatives of the trend and the Chain View;
  • the timestamps of the Analyses, Folder, Trash and Administration pages and the Audit Trail, including the dates its filters take and the name Analysis is given when you create one.

Saving your Time zone changes what is shown at once, without reloading the page. The Display Range and the Investigate Range keep the same instants, so the trend shows the same data.

If you have not chosen one

A user who hasn't chosen a Time zone has Auto detect: plintz uses the time zone of your browser. The dialog says which, as "Auto detect (Europe/Zurich)". Choosing Auto detect again later sets your Time zone back to none.

The Periodic Condition Tool uses your Time zone as the default for its own time zone.

Not included

Per-worksheet time zones, the 24-hour time format, the date format and the language are not preferences in plintz. A change of Time zone isn't in the Audit Trail, which doesn't record preferences.
